Newbury Show

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

Did you make it to the Newbury show ?  Everyone I spoke to seemed to really enjoy the show, and as usual the sun shone on us.  Whilst I almost melted it was much more bearable than previous years - may be number of attendees was lower…

Our stand was really busy especially on Saturday (Sunday is always a quieter day) but I did manage to take a few photos.  The demonstrations of the Cover a Card stamps seemed very popular so I will share more details later… Here’s Jo in full swing showing what can be achieved with a brayer!  newbury-2010-jo.  She certainly looks like she is enjoying herself!!   On Sunday it was Sally’s turn!!  Another friend and talented cardmaker - unfortunately you cannot she what she was doing!!    p7043353

Meanwhile Caroline was busy both days demonstating the Palette Technique and other ideas using the fabulous Copic Markers.  Here’s Caroline in action  -  newbury-2010-caroline

Hi All

I’m so sorry that I haven’t been blogging for a while but I have been unwell but won’t bore you with the details.  Just wanted to remind you that it is the Newbury Art Stamp Show this weekend, so I hope to see you there!

Our stand is in our normal position (on the left when you enter)  and we have lots of lovely new stamps and accessories to show you.  Plus we’ll be offering two demonstrations on the stand.  Caroline will be showing Copic basics and Jo will be using the new Cover a Card stamps from Impression Obsession.

If you would like more details please refer to the Organisers website at http://www.artstampsexhibitions.org.uk/Newbury.  I believe tickets can be purchased on the day so don’t worry if you haven’t already booked!

Just realised that my blog must be a year old as I remember including a photo of Caroline from the last show when I first started my blog.  To celebrate I’ll be offering BLOG CANDY to one lucky reader who responses before Monday 5th July.  Names will be placed in my sun hat and the lucky winner will be announced on Tuesday.  If you don’t enter you won’t win!!!

I hope to have the blog running again after the Newbury show so check back again soon…  Plus details on the Autumn Copic Classes will be announced soon…

Harrogate

Busy demonstating Copics at the Harrogate Show

Busy demonstating Copics at the Harrogate Show

Back from Harrogate and as is usual with me I’m shattered… Shows are really hard work whether you’re visiting, demonstating, organising or exhibiting… This was definitely true for us this weekend as we are based in the south of england so had a 5 hour drive to get to the recent Harrogate show.  Anyway I thought you might be interested in the work of an exhibitor…

It begins about nine months before the event when you receive the booking forms from the organiser and you have to confirm you wish to exhibit and pay a deposit (or sometimes in full); then over the next few months we have to decide on products and demos, make card samples, book any helpers needed for the show, book accomodation and van hire, plan the journey, print fliers and posters, get a float from the bank etc, plan the stand layout, pay the balance… the list goes on.

The days before we travel to the show I have to pack all the stock into crates so it is easy to unpack at the show, and pack stands, gridwall and other display items, plus demo items; sort artboards and card samples and print any posters or special offers etc.  Once we arrive at the venue we have to fairly quickly set up the stand and unpack and display all the stock so that it looks attractive…

You know the next bit - it’s my favourite part - meeting all the lovely customers, helping with any questions, demonstrating, or serving on the till, usually all the above!! - then customers leave and the hard work begins again we have to pack everything back into the crates, and load the stands and crates all back into the van and drive home….

Guess what we then do?  We unpack everything back into the shop, stocktake and then have to quickly reorder sell out stock items for the next show which is quite often days later and start the process all over again…..

I’m not complaning - I really love my job but it is hard work which is why I hate shoplifters… how dare they steal items from me?  I’m a small business trying to keep my head above water and work bloody hard…  Everyone else, I would like to use this occasion to thank you for supporting my baby (my business)…

Card will follow tomorrow !
