Busy demonstating Copics at the Harrogate Show

Busy demonstating Copics at the Harrogate Show

Back from Harrogate and as is usual with me I’m shattered… Shows are really hard work whether you’re visiting, demonstating, organising or exhibiting… This was definitely true for us this weekend as we are based in the south of england so had a 5 hour drive to get to the recent Harrogate show.  Anyway I thought you might be interested in the work of an exhibitor…

It begins about nine months before the event when you receive the booking forms from the organiser and you have to confirm you wish to exhibit and pay a deposit (or sometimes in full); then over the next few months we have to decide on products and demos, make card samples, book any helpers needed for the show, book accomodation and van hire, plan the journey, print fliers and posters, get a float from the bank etc, plan the stand layout, pay the balance… the list goes on.

The days before we travel to the show I have to pack all the stock into crates so it is easy to unpack at the show, and pack stands, gridwall and other display items, plus demo items; sort artboards and card samples and print any posters or special offers etc.  Once we arrive at the venue we have to fairly quickly set up the stand and unpack and display all the stock so that it looks attractive…

You know the next bit - it’s my favourite part - meeting all the lovely customers, helping with any questions, demonstrating, or serving on the till, usually all the above!! - then customers leave and the hard work begins again we have to pack everything back into the crates, and load the stands and crates all back into the van and drive home….

Guess what we then do?  We unpack everything back into the shop, stocktake and then have to quickly reorder sell out stock items for the next show which is quite often days later and start the process all over again…..

I’m not complaning - I really love my job but it is hard work which is why I hate shoplifters… how dare they steal items from me?  I’m a small business trying to keep my head above water and work bloody hard…  Everyone else, I would like to use this occasion to thank you for supporting my baby (my business)…

Card will follow tomorrow !

Garden Visitors

Monday, January 11th, 2010

As promised I got hubby to take some snow photos yesterday 6th Jan (this should have been sent 7th Jan but we couldn’t find his camera cable to connect to the PC until today!)  he only ventured as far as watching the garden birds through the window!!  We consider ourselves very fortunate to be visited by lots of different birds but in particular the Goldfinches seem to consider our garden theirs and we love seeing them  (We have counted 16 in the garden at one time).  PLEASE FEED THE BIRDS at the moment as they really need it.

and this is why he didn’t venture any further - look at the state of our road.

Enjoy the snow!!  Maree from New South Wales Australia responded to my previous email and advised that there the temperature is “lovely 32 degrees C. Sunshining, we are hoping that the rain up on the gold coast will come south as we desperately need it”.  So Maree this snow picture is for you and my other bloggers.  Stay safe everyone and happy crafting, Wendyx

New Year’s Eve

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Wishing you a Happy & Creative  New Year!  The new New Year’s Eve stamp is  ideal for making Quick & Easy cards, and just look at the detail and you’ll see ballons, party hats, top hat, stars, mask and clock face etc.  The stamp is E2351 New Year’s Eve from designer Leigh Hannan.  I have used it together with our black & white paper packs, rhinestines and Spica Glitter pens to create some quick & easy monochrome New Year cards.

Unfortunately this card hasn’t scanned very well.  But I have used Black Glitter card which was cut with the Lg Scallop Square Nestabilities; added the Happy New Year sentiment from our UK exclusive stamp set WP16UK (which set includes all occasions and family names ie Auntie etc).  I have added some colour by colouring just a few of the details with the Spica glitter pens.

Home Sweet Home

Monday, November 16th, 2009

Phew…  What a busy time we have had recently with all the shows etc!  Whilst we love meeting our customers, shows are very hard work so it is nice to know that we now have a little rest from them until next year!!  Show dates for 2010 will be added to our website soon - don’t forget to add them to your diaries or calendars!!

Karen (from my Design Team) gave me this gorgeous card using one of the new Impression Obsession House stamps (G1746 Victorian Porch).  She has coloured it using the Copic markers.  Can you see the wonderful blended look?

Tomorrow night (Tuesday) is Stamping Friends club so I will tell you all about that soon - we are making Jo’s Easel Cards!  Another event this week is our Introduction to  Copic Class in Lutterworth (Leicestershire) on Sunday.  We are already planning our class schedule for next year so if you would like a Copic Class in your area just drop me a line.
